Spending a few days visiting Zimbabwe’s legendary Victoria Falls is virtually obligatory for anyone who really takes the safari bug seriously, but if you want to do it in style and achieve as close to destination perfection as it’s possible to get, then you need to check out this breathtaking hidden gem… Victoria Falls River Lodge.
Victoria Falls River Lodge recently hosted renowned South African content writer and travel journalist Jared Ruttenberg on a landmark birthday trip with his mother. He spent two nights in the epitome of luxury, the Island Treehouse Suites and was blown away by the experience, summing it up in three words: bucket list Africa!
I caught up with Jared recently to get all the intel on this hidden gem ( a must watch for some incredible insights – video link below). Describing his stay as something spectacular, he enthused about the experiences, the lodge’s proximity to the delights of Victoria Falls town while retaining an atmosphere of remoteness and tranquility.
“Being a bit of a star-bed junkie (he has visited several of them around Southern Africa), the highlight of the beautiful Treehouse had to be the star-bed. “Falling asleep to the sound of the bush is sublime. Lying, listening, appreciating,” said Jared. As a travel journalist, Jared has visited many lodges and gone on many safaris. For this reason, he selects the places he reviews and writes about carefully – exploring the distinctive, new or exceptional. And did he get this experience at Victoria Falls River Lodge?
You’ll need to listen to the interview for his incredible stories of his time at Victoria Falls River Lodge ( along with some tips for the trade and some humour) but let’s just say he 100% said it had the X factor, “the combination of warm Zimbabwean hospitality, prolific wildlife, water safaris and then the Falls – it really has it all.”
