When it comes to immersing yourself completely in the African bush, Golden Africa Safaris takes things to the next level! I recently spent 10 nights on a different and delightful safari exploring the Botswana wilderness in their exclusive roving camp in the Savuti and Moremi areas interspersed with nights at some of their partner lodges in the Khwai/lower Okavango Delta and Makgadikgadi regions to see how wonderfully they weave together to create a uniquely curated safari circuit.

My biggest impression was one of superlative personal service and the luxury of absolutely exceptional, one-on-one private guiding (more on that below). Your guides are your storytellers, and navigators and to have our safari shaped by a veteran guide with 25 plus years experience enriched and elevated the safari magic as he was fluent in reading the language of the bush and most importantly keeping us away from the madding crowds (probably Botswana’s biggest challenge). I also left with a sense of wonder at the effortless comfort their luxury roving camp provided, in spite of the remoteness of the areas we were exploring and the logistics involved in keeping us in our safari bubble without sacrificing the impeccable levels of service and hospitality  (I have to add it was the first time I have ever been asked, would I like a soft or hard mattress!). This in essence defines what a luxury roving camp is – bringing together all the luxuries and amenities you would expect from a fixed lodge but in a private, remote setting. The best of both worlds!

These highlight reels showcase some of the unforgettable moments from the different areas we enjoyed on safari! (Definitely turn the sound up!)

Other worldly and extraordinary – the Makgadikgadi
Moremi Magic – next level safari action
Scenic flight over the delta – bucket list!
Cruising the Delta
Savuti – our private paradise

Add to the mix off-the-charts game viewing (cat tricks, honey badgers, lion sightings every day and a cheetah and leopard stand off just to name a few) all experienced in their customised safari vehicles which offers a Rolls Royce-like ride  complemented with a delicious food journey from breakfast cooked over the fire to artisanal dinners and you really do have safari gold!

Before you climb onto an open safari vehicle for a game drive experience, your body usually does that preparation thing where it primes leg, back and arm muscles for a “bush massage” and quality isometric work out! Which is why settling on to one of Golden Africa Safaris’s game viewers is such a shock to the system – and a pleasant one at that! This is the business class of game viewing, with extra plump seats, adjustable padded armrests (to help with long lenses on cameras!) and raised suspension with extra large tyres for the ride of a lifetime! You feel like you are gliding through the bush instead of bumping relentlessly over every invisible nuance of it!

Add to the mix AC & DC charging points throughout, a removable roof, onboard fridge, internal roof lighting, reference books and binoculars and an antenna fitted to the rear of the vehicle (no annoying aerials in the wildlife pics!) and  couple that with a top tier guide at the helm and you have heaven on four wheels!
